ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital is a 169-bed facility that has grown to be the region’s leading pediatric care facility. We offer a full spectrum of medical services to meet the unique needs of children from birth through adolescence. As an accredited facility by the Joint Commission, we strive to meet the highest national standards for safety and quality of care and are committed to continually improving patient care.

Highlights of our facility include a Level IIIb 72-bed unit Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that provides care for premature babies as early as 22 weeks gestation and as small as 14 oz.; the region’s largest Level II pediatric trauma center; a state-of-the-art cancer center for pediatric cancer patients; and the first dual-certified asthma program for treating both inpatient and outpatients by the Joint Commission in Ohio.

Position Summary

The Supervisor of the Child Life Program is responsible for providing leadership to plan and direct clinical child life interventions, psychosocial care, education and leisure programs for pediatric patients and their families in the health care setting inclusive of Child Life Specialists role on Pediatrics, as well as (PPIA) Parental Presence at Induction of Anesthesia, (NICU) Neonatal Intensive Care, and (ED) Emergency Services. Other duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Educational sessions for medical students, new pediatric RNs, pediatric volunteers, child life practicum students and Interns, designed to raise awareness and advocate for child life services
  • Coordinate and evaluate operational and personnel activities to ensure the provision of high quality programs designed to support social, emotional, intellectual, and developmental needs of children and families in health care settings
  • Serves on Family Advisory Council and Unit Practice Council committees to improve the hospital experience overall with (PFCC) Patient and Family Centered Care principles. Encourage family-centered care by providing psychosocial support services to parents while encouraging parent participation.
  • Promote professional growth and development for the Child Life program team members and fosters a professional, encouraging ongoing communication about outcome goals

  • Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Counseling, and Child Psychology, or a closely related field. 
  • Child Life certification required
  • BLS required 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical practice experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist 
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving clinical skills by participation in professional associations including a member of Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP), Child Life Council (CLC) 
  • Prior experience as a Child Life Lead Specialist or supervisory experience is preferred
