Description

ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services in southern Michigan and Ohio. A national leader in treatment of heart attack, congestive heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care, ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital is also a pacesetter in Michigan for obstetrics, emergency care, intensive care, controlling infections and organ donation.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general direction, but following established policies and procedures, provides outpatient mental health and/or substance abuse counseling and therapy.  Using a professional level of knowledge assesses patient’s emotional, social and psychological needs and determines appropriate intervention methods.  Maintains related records and works cooperatively with other caregivers, case managers and managed care representatives.

Education:  The level of knowledge obtained with a master’s degree in social work. 
Skills:  Knowledge of mental health and/or substance abuse treatment, methods, and interventions, and relevant legal regulations. 
 

Years of Experience:  

  • For staff serving individuals with a primary diagnosis of a mental health nature, two years’ experience in a setting for serving patients with mental health concerns preferred.
  •  For staff serving individuals with a substance abuse only diagnosis, two years’ experience in substance abuse setting, or passing or obtaining of NCAC, CCDC or FOADP. 

 

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

Participates in staff meetings, clinical supervision and other meetings as assigned.  Consistently provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers by going beyond to help others, conveying positive energy to patients and co-workers, supporting and adhering to the Service Excellence Standards, striving for high standards of medical practice and actively participating in our efforts to grow and improve healthcare for our patients and community.

Interpersonal skills and continued competency to counsel the patients they serve from the following groups:  (pediatric – 3 – 11 years; adolescent – 12 – 17 years; adult – 18 – 64 years; geriatric – 64 years and above) with psychological, emotional, and social disorders and their families and to deal effectively with outside organizations.
