ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Under supervision and according to established policies and procedures, assists in the planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, directing, and evaluating of a variety of hospital related employee in-service educational programs for nursing personnel, patients, public, etc. May contact internal and outside persons/agencies in order to coordinate programs and obtain program speakers. Operates, uses, stores, and maintains audio-visual equipment.
POSITION SUMMARY
Must have management ability, clinical and technical expertise to coordinate and manage the education, competency, orientation, and operations of the unit including demonstrated knowledge of all clinical specialties. Ability to perform clinical skills as appropriate knowledge of hospital policies, philosophies, procedures, and techniques. Demonstrates the philosophy of the ProMedica mission and vision.
ACCOUNTABILITIES 


1.    Assists Nursing Managers and Sr. Educators in planning, developing, recommending, and implementing policies, procedures, and programs relevant to all hospital employees, patient and public, etc., education, training, competency, and development.
2.    Assists in maintaining monthly schedule of programs offered by the department.
3.    Maintains lines of communication and contact with hospital personnel, physicians, and outside organizations/agencies in order to evaluate educational needs; facilitate training programs and arranges for program speakers.
4.    Responsible for content of written handouts, audio/visuals, video, films, and other learning aids used in teaching.
5.    Assists maintaining department staff specific educational records, skill and competency levels and maintains Net Learning and documentation of the same. Assists with the divisional performance improvement monitoring system and measures.
6.    Assists with the design and implementation of in-service programs for personnel pertinent to their unit; participates in planning and implementing of effective patient teaching programs including students assigned to the areas.
7.    Participates and has active role in hospital committees as delegated by the department or education Manager.
8.    Participates in community education.

 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing Preferred. Actively pursuing BSN or health related field Bachelor’s degree to be completed within 5 years of position acquisition.
Skills: Knowledge of basic computer skills, the educational process including needs analysis, program development, program evaluation, teaching techniques, and the like. Maintains professional competencies and educational requirements. Research skills to support evidence based practice.
Years of Experience: Three years of current clinical experience, with one year being recent experience on unit applied.
License: Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Michigan
Certification: Current Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Crisis Prevention Intervention certification. Willing to obtain certification and instructorship of ACLS, CCRN, CNOR, CPAN and PALS/TNCC/ENPC (unit applicable) within 2 years.
